Out for an evening run tonight around Oban. Not worried about speed or distance but wanting to get about 2 hours out on the legs mainly off road.
Headed up over the hill above Soroba skirting the quarry and onto the track at the “kyber pass”
Popped out of woods at Glencruitten House and headed over and out onto hillside above the old Rare Breeds Park. The first bit of hillside usually has some pigs in it so was proceeding with caution in case I surprised on in th along rushes. Only a couple of deer popped out ion front of me though.
As I cleared the park and came out of the shadow of the woods I could see sunbeams hitting the opposite hillside so got a move on to get onto the high ground above Gelncruitten, overlooking Achnalarig. Just caught the following incredible sunset on what was a drizzly damp night.
A trot out over the hill on some lovely ground with burnt heather form last spring and picked up a quad track back down to the railway crossing at the Summit. A quick check of the watch and daylight and i decided there was just enough light to check out a loop round the back of the wood above the Summit to pick up the tracks in through the woods. A lovely narrow trod led out onto an open pit of moor behind the forest, however one I found the wee loch an and clearing to go back through it was a bit of bushwhacking to get along the side of the lochan, eventually picking up the forest track above Achnalarig. There was just enough light to take a loop back through Glencruitten and drop down above the Rugby club and home, although it was pretty dark on the last 2 miles! A great wee night out on (top of) the town.
